Visiting Salt Spring? >
fall fair

Okay, there is absoultey no deyning that the seasons are changing & the annual event that marks the change is almost here ~ Salt Spring Island Fall Fair!

I have a side job where I travel back & forth across Canada and spend time in small communities. I find myself constantly contemplating why the people of these towns live where they live, and if they love it like I love my home. Then I ponder the reasons why I love it so much on Salt Spring Island. Its definatley the people, the sense of community, the natural beauty, the ocean and above all else it’s the FALL FAIR!

We have almost reached Salt Spring’s weekend of the year!! If you do not live on Salt Spring then I highly recommend making the trip to the Island for this sweet community event. The 2011 theme for the Fall Fair is Green and Growing. This is the how, what, why, when & where.

When: Saturday & Sunday September 17 & 18

Where: 351 Rainbow Road, Salt Spring Island

Time: Gates open at 7:30am

Cost: Adults $8 & Children $4 & Children under 6 are free plus two days passes available

Why: Because you will be so very entertained by all there is to do & see! Check out the catalogue online or pick it up in print available at Foxglove Farm & Garden, Tourist Info, ISCU and Starbarks.

Some highlights of the weekends events include; pie from the pie ladies, on going entertainment, muffin madness, the softest bunnies you will ever touch, the zucinni races, sheep dog demonstrations, horse show, vendors, old cars and more!!  Its some good, down to earth, small town fun.

How:  The fall fair has become much more than a community event & attracts a serious amount of off island traffic.  If you are arriving from Victoria, I recommend leaving your car at Swartz Bay and jumping on the Salt Spring Island bus from Fulford Harbour to Ganges.  You can do the same if you are comming from duncan or Nanaimo through the Vesuvius Ferry & bus.

The fall fair provides a big ol’ school bus to ride from Ganges up Rainbow Road.  Over the years parking has become a serious problem on Rainbow Road!  The advantage of the bus is that you also get a chance to cruise around town & see the Saturday Market.
